My Contribution
User Research, Prototyping, Wireframing, UI Design
Summary
I designed an app to help consumers make informed decisions regarding sustainability.
It is not easy to find information regarding the sustainability of product packaging. The multitude of recycling labels is also a source of confusion to the consumers.
This is a passion project I did during my free time.
Design a product that help users find out about the sustainability of a product.
Introduce a loyalty program to incentivise users to participate.
Explore the use of NFC and GPS technology.

Understand the end-to-end process of how user are currently making their purchasing decisions.
Uncover the different factors that determine their decisions for their purchase.
Identify any problems or barriers they encounter on their groceries shopping.
Learn about any improvements participants might make to their current decision-making process.
User Interviews
Surveys
Prototype testing
User journey
As this is not an existing product, I first need to know if there is a large enough market that will be interested in the sustainability of the groceries they purchase. I started off by conducting a survey with 100 participants.
Do you prioritise sustainability of the packaging?
Would you like to know if a product is sustainable?
Are you willing to pay more for a sustainable alternative?
Do you make extra effort to reduce wastage during your grocery trips?
Loyalty program
Users are rewarded with points when they buy products that are sustainable.
The points could then be redeem for perks such as store vouchers.
Product purchasing flow
At participating outlets, users purchase products by scanning the QR code, then receiving product information. If the users add a product that is not sustainable, they will receive a warning as well as suggestion for alternatives in the store. Purchasing products which are not sustainable will lead to a deduction of points and if the users reach a negative amount, their UI will turn into a red colour scheme to alert and remind them to purchase more sustainable products.
Social feature
Added social feature to encourage users to purchase more sustainably.
The stakeholders
As this was a passion project, I did not have access to a lot of information that could be useful to me. I had to do a lot of desktop research as well as make certain assumptions.
